Man who fell overboard from charter boat dies
A man who fell overboard from a 37-foot charter fishing boat 2 miles off Lanai Thursday has died, officials confirmed.
The man was recovered from the water about two hours after he fell in from the 37-foot vessel "No Problem" about two miles southwest of Lanai. He was unresponsive and pronounced dead, a Maui police spokesman said.
The Maui Fire Department received a distress call about 5:28 a.m. and a rescue boat located the man at about 8:15 a.m.
A small craft advisory was in effect at the time of the incident. The National Weather Service reported winds blowing up to 25 knots and 6 to 8 foot seas.
The man’s identity has not been released yet.
