Hawaii’s Squier honored by the WAC

Hawaii's Scott Squier gave up three hits in eight innings to earn the win on Saturday.

Hawaii freshman left-hander Scott Squier was named the Western Athletic Conference pitcher of the week today.

In his third career start, Squier (2-1) tossed eight shutout innings in a win over Wichita State on Saturday

He faced just three batters over the minimum, striking out seven and allowing only three hits and two walks.

In his last two starts, Squier has thrown 14 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out 13.

For the season, Squier is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA.

Hawaii (9-4) has won eight of its last nine and received a vote in this week’s USA Today/ESPN Top 25 poll.

The Rainbows host Central Michigan in a four-game series beginning Wednesday.
