Philippine authorities filed a charge against boxer Manny Pacquiao for allegedly failing to submit documents proving he paid the right amount of taxes in 2010.

“The regional office has been asking him since last year to submit documents to support his 2010 tax filing, like endorsement contracts, and he hasn’t complied,” Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares said in a phone interview today.

Pacquiao, who is also a lawmaker in the Philippine congress, violated a rule that says taxpayers must submit records when sought by the tax agency, according to Henares. Pacquiao paid more than 100 million pesos ($2.3 million) in taxes in 2008 and about 7 million pesos in 2009, Henares said. She declined to say how much the boxer paid in 2010.

Pacquiao said he had “no intention” of evading the summons for his tax records, according to an interview aired on GMA News TV today. Pacquiao said he sent his lawyer and staff members to the tax office last week to ask for more time to prepare the required documents, according to GMA News.
