Authorities charged a 21-year-man with second-degree assault for an apparently unprovoked attack on a Prada store employee in Waikiki early Saturday morning.

Jimmie Coleman was to appear in District Court this morning and was being held on $11,000 bail.

Police said Coleman entered the luxury retail store at 2174 Kalakaua Ave. and attacked a 49-year-old male employee with an unidentified dangerous instrument at about 2:56 a.m.

Security officers and the victim’s co-workers intervened and disarmed the assailant, police said. The suspect fled the scene but officers, flagged down by store employees, located the suspect nearby and arrested him for second-degree assault, police said.

The victim had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.

The suspect lives at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base at Kaneohe Bay but police would not confirm whether or not he is a Marine.
