Man accused in BYU student sex and extortion case
PROVO, Utah >> A Utah man is accused of trying to extort sexual favors and money from an engaged, male Brigham Young University student he met on Craigslist.
Thirty-six-year-old Brad Ray Adams, of Orem, was charged Monday in Provo with one felony count of forcible sodomy, one count of voyeurism, and one misdemeanor count each of theft by extortion and attempted theft by extortion.
Provo police say the two men started corresponding Feb. 22. Court documents show the 21-year-old student sent Adams a sexually suggestive photo and Adams threatened to send it to BYU officials.
Authorities say Adams suggested they meet up instead. Adams later told the student he secretly taped their sexual encounter and would release the video unless the student paid him money or offered more sex.
