The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Sequoia delivered humanitarian aid and supplies today to various Micronesian islands and atolls.
The mission was a joint effort by the Coast Guard, the Department of Defense and civilian partners.
More than 25 pallets of textbooks, teaching supplies, toys, clothing, books, paint, generators, medical supplies, 55 gallon barrels were delivered to the islands of Ulithi, Nomwin and Murilo Atolls, the Coast Guard said.
The supplies will help to rebuild clinics, schools and provide for the islanders’ needs they can’t get on a regular basis.
The Sequoia also delivered several tons of Project Handclasp supplies collected by the Navy and the Marine Corps.
The cutter also made stops at Chuuk and Pohnpei.
In Pohnpei, Coast Guard members conducted law enforcement operations for fishing enforcement.
Coast Guard members also trained residents in Chuuk, Nomwin and Murilo in basic first aid and treating common afflictions.
Coast Guard crew members also taught basic search and rescue concepts and trained residents on the use of equipment as well as stressed the importance of filing float plans to help locate missing boaters.
