SALT LAKE CITY >> Motivational speaker and author Stephen R. Covey is recovering in a Provo, Utah, hospital after suffering a head injury in a bicycle accident.

Publicist Debra Lund said the 79-year-old Covey is responding to family members Friday, a day after falling from his bike.

Lund says Covey was wearing a helmet but still suffered a head injury. He was taken to a hospital, but doctors have not seen any indication of long-term damage.

Provo police Sgt. Mathew Siufanua said officers found Covey unconscious after his assistant reported the crash on a steep hill.

Covey is the author of "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" as well as three other books that have all sold more than a million copies. He is the co-founder of Utah-based professional services company Franklin-Covey.
