California woman rescued after jumping into pond
Maui fire personnel today rescued a 21-year-old California woman who suffered a possible broken leg after jumping into a pond off the Commando Trail in East Maui.
The woman jumped from a height of about five to six feet into the pool and hit her leg on a submerged rock, a fire official said.
The Fire Department received the call just before 3:26 p.m. today to the trail located in the Bamboo Forest.
The woman, from Carmel, Calif., was with a party of 10 friends and family, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
A rescue unit and Air-1 helped to pull the woman out of the water and airlifted her to safety.
She was taken to a landing zone where paramedics transported her to Maui Memorial Medical Center where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
