FBI confirms raids at Honolulu homes, businesses
Federal agents backed by Honolulu Police Department officers raided two homes and five businesses in Honolulu from Monday evening through Tuesday morning, an FBI agent confirmed.
No one was arrested and no charges have yet been filed in connection with the raids, which involve an ongoing investigation into illegal gambling activity, said FBI Special Agent Tom Simon.
The homes were both units within the Palolo Valley Homes public housing complex while the businesses were the Thai House restaurant at the Market City Shopping Center in Kaimuki and four smaller businesses at Maunakea Marketplace in Chinatown, Simon said.
Evidence was seized as the search warrants were executed, Simon said, but he declined to provide details. "We will present our evidence in court at a future date," he said.
Agencies participating besides FBI and HPD were the Internal Revenue Service and Homeland Security Investigations, an agency that is attached to the Department of Homeland Security, Simon said.
