Pearl City brush fire extinguished; started by car fire
A car fire in Pearl City sparked a small brush fire near Forest City Manana Housing.
The Fire Department received a call at 1:09 p.m. today for a vehicle fire at 1000 Kamehameha Highway near Kuala Street.
Firefighters brought the car fire under control at 1:18 p.m.
But additional units were called to respond to the brush fire, which had spread from the vehicle to a hillside that leads to the Manana Housing.
Firefighters contained the brush fire at 1:42 p.m. and declared it extinguished at 2:30 p.m.

That fire burned a half-acre to an acre and got within 50 to 100 feet of homes, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said. There was a fire break and officials did not evacuate people or close roads, Seelig said.
