Crash ruptures gas line in Keeaumoku area

Police blocked off a section of Liona Street near Keeaumoku Street today after a Mazda SUV crashed into a gas line in front of the building at 1512 - 1520 Liona St.

A sport utility vehicle ruptured a synthetic natural gas line in a chain-reaction crash Sunday in the Keeaumoku Street area.

Honolulu fire Capt. Robert Main said the vehicle hit a gate, which hit a gas meter, causing a leak about 11 a.m. on Liona Street.

A fire hazardous materials crew shut off the gas.

A spokesman for The Gas Co. said the meter belonged to Maui Divers Jewelry, which may have been affected by the outage. A crew replaced the meter by 2 p.m.

No one was hurt, Main said.
