Autopsy requested in death of bicyclist found on side of Hawaii island road
Hawaii island police have requested an autopsy to determine what killed a 63-year-old bicyclist who was found on the side of a highway today in Kona.
The identity of the Kailua Kona man was being withheld, pending notification of his family.
Police said the man fell behind a group of other riders and was found lying on the side of Queen Kaahumanu Highway near the 82-mile marker about 9:30 a.m.
Preliminary findings found no signs of the bicycle or the cyclist being hit by a vehicle. The man was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m.
