Firefighters making progress in extinguishing Milolii Ridge fire
Progress is being made in extinguishing a brush fire on Kauai that has been burning in the Na Pali-Kona Forest Reserve on Kauai since Monday, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources said.
About 60 state and county firefighters and two helicopters are battling the blaze on Milolii Ridge that has burned at least 200 acres six miles southwest of Kokee State Park.
Crews are checking the perimeter of the fire to make sure it is not spreading while helicopters drop water on flames.
The DNLR said a Kauai crew has prevented the fire from spreading to the Paaiki Gulch plant exclosure, so there is no threat the the plants there.
The state has closed the Milolii Ridge Trail until the fire is extinguished.
It’s believed the blaze may have started from an unauthorized camping fire.
