Kailua-Kona man charged in robbery
Hawaii County police charged a Kona man today with three offenses in connection with a late-night robbery Tuesday in Kailua-Kona.
Carlos Garrido, 18, of Kailua-Kona was charged with robbery, assault and criminal property damage. His bail was set at $28,000. He was being held at the Kona police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Friday.
A 20-year-old man arrested with Garrido, was released from police custody Thursday afternoon pending further investigation.
At 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 27-year-old Kailua-Kona man had been confronted by three young men who reportedly attacked him, threw him to the ground, beat him and took his backpack. The victim pulled the backpack from the vehicle in which the three were driving away.
Seventeen minutes later, police found the vehicle and arrested three suspects. The third suspect, a 17-year-old boy was released to his parents Wednesday.
