Lifeguards revive kite surfer off Kailua Beach
City lifeguards resuscitated a kite surfer who was not breathing when brought from waters off Kailua Monday afternoon.
The 58-year-old man was kite-surfing about 4:55 p.m. Monday when a lifeguard noticed the man was having problems in the ocean, said Jim Howe, operations chief for the city Ocean Safety Division.
Howe said a person near the man was able to hold the man above water until lifeguards arrived.
Howe said ifeguards revived the man and also took steps to stabilize the man’s back. The man was taken to Castle Medical Center.
