Ethics Commission fining 22 legislative candidates for not filing financial disclosures

The state Ethics Commission is fining 22 state House and Senate candidates — including several incumbents — $25 each for failing to meet a deadline for filing financial disclosure statements.

The commission said Tuesday state law requires that all candidates for state office file the statement.

The document is where candidates disclose how they earn their income, what property and businesses they own and any other financial interests they have.

The commission says more than 160 candidates filed their statements by the Monday deadline.

The law requires the commission to publicly release a list of those who missed the deadline and to fine the candidates $25.
