A Kula man who paraded around Maui for years pretending to be a U.S. Treasury Department special agent and persuading a certified K-9 dog trainer to give him an $11,500 discount on the purchase of a law enforcement canine pleaded guilty in federal court today to depositing thousands of dollars in his bank accounts in increments less than $10,000 to evade reporting requirements.

Abraham Kantzabedian faces a maximum five-year prison term when a federal judge sentences him in November.

Kantzabedian, 54, pleaded guilty to making 25 cash deposits totaling $55,300 from July 7 to Oct. 28, 2008, and 15 cash deposits totaling $45,650 from May 13 to June 22, 2009, in amounts designed to evade reporting requirements.
