Hawaii County firefighters quickly extinguished a kitchen fire in a home in Kawaihae Tuesday morning, the fire department announced.
Two engine companies and a ladder company responded to the 4:47 a.m. alarm. They arrived at the home on Ka Loo Loo Drive at 5:06 and had the fire out by 5:16 a.m., the department said.
Police made a forcible entry into the house to look for people, but no one was home, the fire department said.
The home is on Hawaiian Home Lands. The cause was under investigation. There was no immediate loss estimate.
