Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in finding a 47-year-old Mountain View man for questioning about a shooting in Puna in July.

Police want to question James Coffey of Overview Road. He is described as 5-feet 10-inches tall, 150 pounds, with hazel eyes and short and graying hair.

Coffey may be driving a brown, late-model Toyota pickup truck.

Police said a 39-year-old Mountain View woman reported that 5:30 p.m. July 3 that a man allegedly fired two shots from what appeared to be a firearm, and they sounded like gunshots. The woman said she had gotten into an argument with the man two hours earlier at his Mountain View home. The woman was not injured, police said.

Anyone with information on Coffey’s whereabouts is asked to call Detective Joel Field at 961-2381 or email him at jfield@co.hawaii.hi.us.
