A 48-year-old Haiku man died after being pulled unconscious from waters off Kanaha Beach Park Saturday afternoon.

The man was free diving with friends, who became concerned when he did not return to shore.

Ocean Safety officers used Jet Skis to search for the man. He was found submerged on the ocean floor, still tethered to his diving buoy.

The man was brough to shore and CPR was performed until paramedics arrived. The man was transported in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he later died.
