The state Department of Health is advising the public to stay out of waters between Kuilima Cove and Kawela Bay following a sewage spill Friday near the Turtle Bay Resort.

According to the department, a broken pipe resulted in up to 20,000 gallons of sewage entering a storm drain leading to the ocean.

The flow has been stopped and water samples are being examined, the department reported.

The public is advised to remain out of the area until warning signs posted on Friday have been removed.
