Water service restored after outage closes Kaneohe schools, court

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply restored water service to  affected customers in Kaneohe Wednesday after a 16-inch transmission main that feeds three reservoirs broke.

Water pressure should be back to normal Thursday morning, said spokeswoman Kymber-Lee Char.

Windward Community College, Hawaii Pacific University’s Hawaii Loa campus, Kaneohe Elementary School and Ke Kula o Samuel M. Kamakau public charter school, and Kaneohe District Court were closed Wednesday because of  the water outage. All the buildings were to reopen Thursday.

BWS spokesman Kurt Tsue said he could not estimate the number of affected customers, mostly residential located between the HPU Hawaii Loa campus and Heeia. Because of the gravity-fed system, some customers on the same street continued with water service while others in a lower service area did not.
