Enrollment across the University of Hawaii system has reached a record high.

The university said Wednesday fall 2012 opening enrollment reached 60,633 students. That number surpasses the fall 2011 record by 114 students.

University officials say enrollment has increased for a sixth straight year and has grown by 21 percent since 2006.

The newest campus in Kapolei welcomed about 2,000 students, a 19 percent gain over last year.

Enrollment at the flagship Manoa campus remained about the same. The Hilo campus increased slightly by 23 students to nearly 4,200.

Overall enrollment at the seven community colleges decreased slightly by 240 students to a little more than 34,100.

Kauai, Leeward and Windward community colleges saw increases while Maui College along with Hawaii, Honolulu and Kapiolani community colleges saw decreased enrollment.
