Prep football: Kapolei upsets No. 9 Campbell 35-34

Jerry Campany

Kapolei linebacker Micah Paris blocked an extra-point try and made a tackle to end the game to give the Hurricanes a 35-34 upset win over No. 9 Campbell on Friday night at Kapolei.

The Sabers scored three touchdowns in the final quarter to make a comfortable Kapolei team nervous, the last one a 5-yard pass from Isaac Hurd to Bronson Ader on fourth and goal with 2:44 left to pull Campbell within a point. The Sabers (3-3 OIA Red) had all of the momentum and went the safe rout by trying to kick the extra point rather than going for two, which it did successfully earlier in the quarter.

With Paris on the field, no kick is safe, though.

Paris rushed through the middle of the line and got a hand on the ball to set off a huge senior night celebration.

“I just found a seam and I took it,” Paris said. “We have been struggling the past two games, but we practiced hard and worked hard and gave Campbell what they wanted.”
