Earthquake off Honshu did not generate tsunami
An earthquake in the Pacific Ocean about 60 miles east of Honshu in Japan Monday afternoon did not generate a Pacific-wide tsunami, an official with the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
The 6.2 earthquake happened about 12:21 p.m., said geophysicist Gerard Fryer, who was monitoring the situation from the tsunami center’s Ewa Beach headquarters.
“It’s too small to generate a tsunami although I’m sure people on the island felt it,” Fryer said.
