Man changes plea in L.A.-area dog killing, gets jail
PASADENA, Calif. » A man on trial for beating a dog to death with a hammer changed his plea to no contest after jurors were shown a videotape of the killing.
Forty-two-year-old Young Song of Pasadena pleaded no contest today to one felony count of animal cruelty and one misdemeanor count of petty theft of a dog with a special allegation of using a deadly weapon.
Prosecutors say Song went into his neighbor’s yard on April 20, 2011, shot the dog with a pellet gun and later beat it to death with a hammer. He removed the dog’s body and it was never found.
The judge sentenced Song to three years of probation and a year in county jail. He must pay his neighbor $75 and can’t have an animal for 10 years.
