Maui fire investigators were unable to determine the cause of the noxious odor which resulted in the evacuation of 10 people from the county morgue in Wailuku Wednesday morning.

The Maui Fire Department Haz-Mat crew was summoned at 8:23 a.m. to the county morgue at 1831 Wili Pa Loop in the Wailuku Mill Yard. A class of female students started feeling ill from odors within the classroom on the second floor.

The building was evacuated and technicians conducted air sampling and testing. Occupants were allowed back into the building at 9:30 a.m. One employee, complaining of nausea, was treated at the scene and later transported to the hospital.
