Four people were displaced after a fire destroyed their home today in Kahaluu and caused $450,000 worth of damage.

One person was at home when the fire broke out at the two-story, six-bedroom home at 47-563 Hui Iwa St. near Ahuimanu Elementary School, but was able to escape without any injuries.

The fire was reported at 11:46 a.m. and was extinguished at 12:36 p.m.

The 42-year-old house suffered substantial damage, a fire official said. About 70 percent of the first floor  sustained heavy damage

The Red Cross was on scene to help the four displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials believe it started at the back of the house.

A neighboring house suffered $5,000 worth of damage caused by the heat from the burning structure.
