Kauai water outage planned for Haena-Wainiha area

The Kauai County Department of Water has scheduled a water outage in the Haena-Wainiha area on Thursday to make connection with the newly renovated Haena steel tank.

The outage will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus an additional two hours to flush the system, Kauai officials said in a news release Friday.

The areas that will have no water service are all of Haena and parts of Wainiha including homes along Kuhio Highway from the Wainiha Powerhouse Road intersection to just beyond the Ananalu Road intersection, as well as all of those along Ananalu Road. A map of affected streets can be viewed online at www.kauaiwater.org.

Customers are advised to store enough water to meet their needs during the outage. Those with water heaters should ensure they do not empty during the outage.

The department will provide portable water tanks at Kuhio Highway and Alealea Road and at Kuhio Highway and Waniha Powerhouse Road. Customers will need to bring their own water containers.

For more information, call the Department of Water at 245-5444 during business hours, 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.  For emergencies after business hours, call police dispatch at 241-1711.
