Maui police: 4 men attack and rob tourist in Kihei
Four men attacked and robbed a tourist Thursday at Kamaole Beach Park III in Kihei Thursday evening, Maui police said.
The man, 46, from Kansas City, Mo., told police he was his rented moped in the parking lot when he was attacked by four men, ages 27 to 35, at about 7:47 p.m.
The man said he had been drinking with a friend at the park and had just walked to his moped when one of the men accused him of stealing the moped and then punched him in the jaw. Police said the victim fell to the ground and then was punched and kicked by all four men.
One of the men pulled the victim’s large gold, rope chain from his neck and fled on the moped, police said. The other men got into a small sports car and drove away on South Kihei Road.
The victim suffered bruising and swelling to his face, but refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Maui police at (808) 244-6425 or Maui Crime Stoppers at (808) 242-6966.
