Senate panel to release University of Hawaii probe

A state Senate committee will announce the findings of its investigation into the University of Hawaii’s operational and financial management.

The Senate Special Committee on Accountability began its probe after the athletic department lost $200,000 setting up a fundraiser concert.

The committee will hold a briefing on its findings and recommendations this afternoon at the state Capitol.

Committee Chairwoman Sen. Donna Mercado Kim says the panel hopes the university will seriously consider the recommendations.

A task force reporting to the Board of Regents last week announced its findings. The task force blamed the loss on a lack of judgment on the part of those involved in the financial transactions as well as their failure to take overall responsibility.
