Investigation ongoing in 100-vehicle highway wreck
BEAUMONT, Texas >> Authorities in Southeast Texas continue to investigate a 100-vehicle highway pileup that killed two people.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Chuck Havard tells KFDM-TV that investigators will determine whether any drivers face charges.
The massive Thanksgiving morning wreck occurred on Interstate 10 southwest of Beaumont, on Texas’ Gulf Coast. A crash on eastbound I-10 is believed to have started a chain reaction that left cars and trucks piled on top of each other.
Two people died and more than 80 were injured. Twelve people were listed in serious condition Thursday night.
A Beaumont spokeswoman tells KFDM that two children and one adult were transferred to hospitals in nearby Houston. Hospitals have released others injured in the crash.
Heavy fog blanketed I-10 at the time of the accident.
