City installs six EV charging stations in Honolulu

The city has installed six electric vehicle charging stations for public use in parking facilities at the Neal Blaisdell Center, Chinatown Gateway Plaza, Civic Center, Hale Pauahi, Honolulu Zoo, and Smith-Beretania Parking Structure.

The charging stations use the ChargePoint network, which allows users to hold a ChargePoint card over the reader symbol on the charging stations to start and stop charging, according to a news release from the city.

EV drivers also can call a number printed on the front of the stations for assistance. The City is not currently charging for use of the stations, so the card serves only as a tool to lock and unlock a charging station’s connector.

The charging stations were paid for with a $400,000 grant from the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism grant to support EV infrastructure development.
