Maui community association ordered to hand over documents

WAILUKU » A judge is ordering a community association on Maui to comply with a subpoena and hand over documents to the state attorney general.

The Maui News reports that the Wailuku Main Street Association and board Chairman Thomas Cannon have until Jan. 3 to provide the government with additional financial and organizational documents.

The association is a nonprofit group that has received more than $2.2 million in county funding in the last decade. It is being investigated in order to find out how taxpayer funds have been used and if any of Hawaii’s nonprofit laws have been violated.
