Man charged with endangering after gun is fired in Hilo

Hawaii island officials charged a 48-year-old Hawaiian Ocean View Estates man with firearms violations and other offenses after someone fired a gun Thursday morning in Hilo.

Allen Benjamin III is accused of second-degree reckless endangering, place to keep ammunition, place to keep pistol, first-degree theft and two counts of prohibited ownership/possession. His bail was set at $15,000. 

Police received a call at 12:46 a.m. Thursday that someone fired a gun in the Hilo industrial area. No one was hurt.

Witnesses led officers to a vehicle parked on Maka­ala Street, which led police to Benjamin. Police recovered a weapon and ammunition.
