Heavy rains prompt flood advisory for east Maui
The National Westher Service has issued a flood advisory for the windward side of east Maui.
The advisory is in effect until 1:15 p.m., but could be extended.
The agency said radar imagery at 10:12 a.m. showed persistent heavy rain over the windward slopes of Haleakala above Kaupo, Hamoa and Hana.
The rain is not expected to affect Hana Highway, but will cause stream levels to rise in east Maui, including Ohea Gulch, the weather service said.
People are advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas.
