A 34-year-old Waipio man was arrested Friday afternoon after he allegedly broke into his elderly neighbor’s residence and demanded money from him while holding a dangerous instrument.

Police said the incident occurred at a Waipio home about 2:14 p.m. Friday and involved a victim who is 80 years old. Neighbors heard the commotion and called police.

The suspect, of a Lumihoahu Street address, was arrested at the scene a short time later and is being held pending charges of robbery, kidnapping and burglary.

The suspect and victim apparently both live in separate units at the same street address, according to the Honolulu Police Department arrest log.
