The Hawaii men’s basketball team could not withstand one of the best individual performances ever seen at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UC Davis guard Corey Hawkins scored 40, one off the arena record, hit eight 3-pointers and went 12-for-12 at the free-throw line as the Aggies defeated UH 93-82 today, ending the Rainbow Warriors’ unbeaten Big West Conference streak at home.

UCD (7-10, 3-3 BWC) tied a UH opponent record with 16 3s, 14 of which came in the first half to build a 17-point halftime lead. Hawkins, the son of NBA veteran Hersey Hawkins, went 7-for-8 in the period and 8-for-9 for the game from deep. He was 10-for-14 from the field overall.

UH (10-8, 4-3) heads to the road to play its next four, starting at Cal Poly on Thursday.

UH drew within seven late but had to go to fouling, and Hawkins was flawless in the final two minutes in all 12 foul shots. He also grabbed 12 rebounds.

Hawkins tied the UCD program record with eight 3s, including seven in the first half. He entered the game with only 15 made on the season.

UH cut it to 12 on a 3-pointer by Brandon Jawato with under 14 minutes to play. Jawato hit two free throws with 5:48 left to make it 76-65.

Isaac Fotu cut it to nine two possessions later, but Hawkins came back with a floater.

Christian Standhardinger scored inside off a Garrett Jefferson steal to make it a seven-point game with 1:54 left.

Seven was as close as it would get. Christian Standhardinger led UH with 20 points and eight rebounds. Vander Joaquim added 16 points and 11 boards for his sixth double-double of the season.
