Conference expansion leaves UH football with conundrum
The Mountain West Conference’s expansion to 12 games and addition of a championship game has left the University of Hawaii with a dilemma:
What to do with its scheduled Dec. 7 home game with Brigham Young?
Because it will have 12 teams, the MWC will be able to hold a championship game between the winners of the two divisions. The conference announced today via Twitter that it will hold that title game Dec. 7 at the site of the highest-ranked team, according to Bowl Championship Series rankings.
UH athletic director Ben Jay said, " I will have to talk to them (BYU)."
The conference said UH will be in the Western Division of the new-look MWC season, the conference announced on Twitter this morning.
Joining the Warriors in the West will be Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and Nevada-Las Vegas.
The Eastern Division will be composed of Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming.
