Airline passenger caught with knives was flying to Hilo
The airline passenger, who tried to smuggle three knives in a thermos past airport security officials at Honolulu Airport last week, was trying to make a flight to Hilo.
Transportation Security Administration today said the man was stopped at 6 p.m. Jan. 20 trying to board a Hawaiian Airlines flight to Hilo carrying three knives. The passenger had traveled through the checkpoint once and was permitted to take the knives outside of the checkpoint area to check them in his baggage. Instead, the man attempted to sneak them through in a thermos, the TSA reported.
The knives were confiscated and the passenger was allowed to book a later flight to Hilo.
The three knives were among the prohibited items airline passengers tried to sneak through airport security check points last week, the TSA said in its weekly report.
TSA officials said 30 firearms were discovered at checkpoints around the country last week – 25 of those firearms were loaded and 13 had rounds chambered.
