S.F. couple accused of killing daughter’s pimp ordered to stand trial

SAN FRANCISCO » Four people have been ordered to stand trial in San Francisco for the murder of a man who allegedly pimped the daughter of two of the suspects.

Judge Bruce Chan ordered the trial Wednesday in the June 4 drive-by shooting of 22-year-old Calvin Sneed of Compton in San Francisco’s Bayview District.

Prosecutors say two of the defendants, Lupe Mercado and Barry Gilton, blamed Sneed for dragging their 17-year-old daughter into prostitution.

Prosecutors say Gilton, his cousin Antonio Gilton and friend Alfonso Williams drove next to Sneed’s car and shot him in the head. Mercado was not in the car, but allegedly called Barry Gilton minutes before the shooting.

Attorneys for the four defendants argue that Sneed was a gang member who had no shortage of enemies who wanted him dead.
