Elam pitches Wichita State past Hawaii

UH second baseman Stephen Ventimilia tags out Wichita State's Micah Green in his attempt to steal second base.

Cale Elam allowed four hits over eight innings and Johnny Coy went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as Wichita State snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over Hawaii on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

Scott Squier, who had given up only three runs in his first three home starts, had his shortest outting of the year.

The Shockers tagged Squier (0-3) for three runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Casey Gillaspie hit his seventh home run of the season in the first for the Shockers (12-10).

Conner George and Kaeo Aliviado both singled and drove in a run for Hawaii (4-16), which ended a three-game winning streak.

Elam (2-1) walked four and struck out one.

Game 4 of the series is Saturday night at 6:35.
