Police named one of two men, considered armed and dangerous, in a Makiki carjacking in which the assailants appeared to impersonate police officers.
Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Justin “Face” Agustine, 36, who is accused of robbing a man and woman in their dark green 1997 Jeep Cherokee on Thurston Avenue early Thursday morning.
Police said Agustine and another man brandished a handgun and demanded money from the male victim, 44, and woman, 42, who were sitting in the Cherokee, license number PRX-317, at 5 a.m. Thursday.
Mike, who only gave his first name and lives on Thurston Avenue, said he was awakened by voices and looked out his window to see an SUV parked behind the Jeep. He initially thought it was a traffic stop because the assailants were dressed in black and the one standing next to the driver had some kind of yellow patch on his arm. After the men ordered the victims out of the Jeep, they told them to sit on the sidewalk with their legs crossed and hands behind their heads he said.
Police said one assailant entered the Cherokee and drove off, while the other drove away in a dark colored SUV.
The men were wearing masks, but police said Agustine was positively identified. He is described as 6 foot 1, 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a 2-inch scar on his left cheek.
Mike, who immediately called police, said the victims called for help, but didn’t know where they were and said they were in Punahou. He said the woman reported the license plate number of the dark-colored SUV.
Police warn not to approach Agustine, but to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at *CRIME on a cellular phone or 955-8300.
