The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help in locating the owner of a single-person red and yellow kayak found off the southern coast of Maui.

The 8- to 10-foot kayak was recovered at 7 a.m. off Makena. The case is being classified as a possible distress.

The kayak had no growth on it and has the seat in. It was unmanned and adrift with no gear on board and had no identification on it.

The kayak was recovered by a boat and turned over to the Coast Guard on Maui.

Anyone with information on the kayak’s owner or possible point of origination is asked to call the Coast Guard at (808) 842-2600.
