VENTURA, Calif. » Ventura County will weigh whether to require porn actors to wear condoms during filming similar to a law adopted by Los Angeles County voters last year.

County Supervisor Linda Parks said she planned to introduce an ordinance to discourage adult film companies from making movies in the county.

“If it means they can only film someplace else, that would be fine with me,” Parks told the Ventura County Star in Saturday’s editions.

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors is expected to take up the porn condom ordinance in May. If passed, it would apply to unincorporated regions in the county.

Since LA County passed its condom law last year, production companies have been scouting for sites outside the San Fernando Valley where most adult films are shot.

Some residents in Newbury Park said they have received fliers from an agent seeking a place to film sex scenes. Officials in Oxnard and Ventura said companies have inquired about the permitting process for adult films.

After Camarillo received an influx of film permit requests, the City Council decided to institute a 45-day moratorium on production of pornographic movies.

Earlier this year, a state assemblyman introduced a bill that would require condoms in porn flicks filmed in the state.

“Had a statewide bill passed, you wouldn’t have these film production companies going from county to county to county,” said Assemblyman Isadore Hall, D-Los Compton.

James Young, a location manager for Art Monkeys Inc., which has been filming at a Newbury Park home since last month, said he has not heard neighbors complain.

The nonprofit AIDS Healthcare Foundation pushed for the condom requirement in LA County. The group wants health officials to make spot checks on porn productions to ensure compliance similar to the way they regulate restaurants, nail salons and other businesses.
