The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized community police officer Tyler Prokopec as Hawaii County “Officer of the Month” for May in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday in Kailua-Kona.

Prokopec was honored for his response to community complaints about a suspected drug house in the Seaview Circle subdivision. Prokopec researched the home and its residents and, with a Vice Section officer, investigated until they obtained enough evidence for a search warrant.

Officers served the warrant on the house and arrested eight people. The arrests led to 15 felony charges for drug and firearms offenses and additional charges. Police recovered assorted drugs, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.
