Hawaii teens honored in D.C. for volunteerism
Fourteen year-old Michael-Logan Jordan of Kailua and Brittany Amano, 15, of Honolulu, have been honored in Wash., D.C. as Hawaii’s two top youth volunteers of 2013.
Jordan, of Kailua Intermediate School, and Amano, a sophomore at ‘Iolani School, were selected from a field of 28,000 youth volunteers from across the country and were honored along with eight other teenagers. They received monetary prizes and congratulations from Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey and Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix in ceremonies Sunday.
Jordan, named a National Honoree, received a personal award of $5,000, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for his school and a $5,000 grant from the Prudential Foundation for a nonprofit charitable organization of his choice.
Amano received $1,000 as part of the annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
