3 dead ID’d after wrong-way interstate crash near Vegas

LAS VEGAS » Authorities are identifying three people killed in a weekend crash involving a wrong-way driver from Las Vegas and several people from India on Interstate 15 near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Clark County coroner on Monday identified the people killed in the 4:30 a.m. Sunday wreck as 20-year-old Aldo Diaz-Mafra, 28-year-old Ashutosh Jain of Beumont, Texas, and 58-year-old Chitra Jain from India.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Diaz-Mafra was driving an Acura north in the southbound lanes when it slammed head-on into a white GMC Yukon driven by Ashutosh Jain.

Four other passengers in Jain’s vehicle were hospitalized.

Elliott says investigators believe they’re related and visiting from India.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
