A Maui County fire helicopter Tuesday rescued 12 hikers stranded by rising stream waters due to heavy rain at the Bamboo Forest, just off Hana Highway near Haiku.

Firefighters said the hikers — eight local residents, two from California and two from Washington state — were airlifted from three locations about 3:20 p.m. and all did not require any medical help.
