1 woman dead, deputy wounded in Virginia Costco shooting

STERLING, Va. » A woman is dead and a Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputy was wounded after responding to a call of disorderly conduct at a Sterling-area Costco store.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Liz Mills said the shooting occurred about 3 p.m. today. The deputy had been called to respond to a disorderly conduct complaint.

Mills said the circumstances of the shooting are under investigation and still being sorted out. She said that the deputy suffered a wound to the leg in the confrontation, and that the woman involved in the confrontation with the deputy was killed.

Mills said the shooting scene has now been determined to be safe and secure, and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Further details about the deputy’s injuries were unavailable.
